Re: S16 without X32
From what I understand by reading the online manual, you don't.
It's not like the iLive where all the processing is in the box on the stage.
The S16 is just a way of converting the XLR inputs to the AES CAT5 system so that they can go to the X32, or to another S16 where you can send the output to a couple of ADA8000s via ADAT and then out to a desk, should you not want to use an X32.
The S16 has a gain control per channel which is set locally and then trimmed from the X32. There are no other controls (EQ, etc) in the box. That's all handled either by the X32 or whatever other desk you have interfaced or connected at the FOH end.
You can use the S16 as a standalone snake, but you would need two of them (one on stage, one at FOH) and then something like 2 x ADA8000s to convert from ADAT to analog at the FOH end. That's if I'm reading the manual right.
Personally, I'm putting both of mine on the stage and running a CAT5 cable to my X32 at FOH. Only a few days to go. Apparently they're with UPS at the moment...
